2017 County U15 A Hurling champions

Bandon 3.14

Youghal 2.07

The 2016 County A U14 Hurling champions are the 2017 County U15 A Hurling champions , in probably their Bandon’s last game in the A grade for quite a while.

This well attended final was played on Wednesday 12th July at Mayfield.

This was a strange game in many ways with Bandon leading at half time by 3.08 to 0.03 and heading for what looked like a facile victory.

They were full value for that lead with centre forward Charlie Long and full forward Daithi Collis on song throughout that first half. An outstanding first half save by Oisin Doyle looked to

be of little significance at the time, but it’s importance was highlighted in the second half when Youghal came storming into the game and reduced the deficit to just five points before

Bandon kicked on again in the last ten minutes.

It’s a very good sign of a team that can come back and pull a game out of the fire when they could be accused of “ taking taken their foot off the gas “ .

Some easy point scoring opportunities were spurned in the first ten minutes of the second half and Youghal to their credit raised their game to make it a real contest .

There is a super spine to this team , goalkeeper Oisin Doyle , Tim Twohig the team captain , Conor Twomey , Cathal Lynch , Niall Desmond , Charlie Long and Daithi Collis are all players for the future .

Wing backs Cian Burke and Richard Murphy were two of the best players on the pitch , the two O’ Mahony’s in the corners , Oisin and Ralph , both hurled well.

Wing forwards Gavin Lowney and Rory Desmond worked their socks off and a feature of Jake Lillis and Brendan Twohig’s performances was their work-rate and their defending from corner forward .

This is a very well coached team and their touch and teamwork are a joy to watch , well done and plaudits to coaches Finbarr Lynch , Ian Doyle and John Collis for the endless hours they continue to put into this fine team .

U15

The Bandon under 15 footballers got their championship campaign off to a winning start when they travelled to Castlehaven and defeated the locals last Wednesday night by 9-9 to 0-9.

Bandon were slow getting out of the blocks because they had very little football played due to their recent success in the County Hurling Championship and were very rusty in the first half.

Thankfully, Bandon eventually got into their stride and had a comprehensive victory. The lads played lovely football at times but at other times were sloppy in possession.

Bandon played their best football in the second half and strongest for Bandon on the night were Tom Desmond, Richard Murphy, Gavin Lowney and Rory Desmond. Bandon travel to play Kinsale in the next round on Sunday next and can expect a much stronger performance from the opposition.

Team, Oisin Doyle, Oisin O'Mahony, Tim Twohig, Ralph O'Mahony, Cian Burke, , Conor Twomey, Tom Desmond, Richard Murphy, Robert McCarthy, Gavin Lowney, Charlie Long, Cathal Lynch, Rory Desmond, Daithi Collis, Jake Lillis. Substitutes, Brendan Twohig, Luke Quinlan, J O'Donovan, Kieran Barry, Conor Gallagher, Sam Donegan.
