Bandon GAA Notes 17-03-2018 - 2018-03-13

West Cork U-21 Football
Bandon 2-13
, Newcestown 1-13 (aet)

Many people had "left the building" when the real drama unfolded in the West Cork U-21B quarter final at a blustery Enniskeane venue on Saturday afternoon. In truth nobody saw this Lazarus like comeback happening. Newcestown were deservedly heading for a facile 1-12 to 0-7 win having completely outplayed an over-defensive Bandon outfit. Bandon trailed all through and were 0-4 to 1-7 down at half time in ordinary time. The full time score was 2-9 to 1-12 and Bandon were to completely dominate the two periods of extra time as Newcestown never recovered from the hammer- blows of that pulsating last five minutes.

Two goals from Ben Donegan and an equalising strike from Eoin O'Sullivan after a very well judged free by Timmy McCarthy spurred the Bandon revival. At half time of extra time we led 2-10 to 1.12 and at full time the comeback was complete, evoking memories of a similar feat three years ago in the County Minor Football Final against Fermoy in Ballincollig when we also looked dead and buried. Only Nelson McCarthy in defence and Eoin Nolan in attack together with game changing substitutes Conor Calnan and Ben Donegan deserve mention in what was a fairly insipid display up until the 55th minute. We await the winner's of Kilmacabea and Urhan.

Team: Jack Donegan, David Crowley, James O'Donovan, Brian Crowley, Rob Long, Donough Lucey, Cian O'Mahony, Peter Murphy, James Walsh 0-1, Jonathan Mulcahy 1-0, Alan Johnson 0-1, David Ahern, Matthew McNamara 0-1, Barry Collins 0-3, Darren Crowley 0-1.

U16 Football

On Monday night our Under 16 Footballers had a facile 6-17 to 1-8 victory over Eire Og in the Premier 2 Football League in Bandon. The score was 3-11 to 0-3 at the small whistle and our only rough patch was early after the re-start when Eire Og scored 1-3. The winter strength and conditioning training has stood this team in good stead and they were away fitter and stronger than their Muskerry opponents. Tom Desmond, Charlie Long and Daithi Collis stole the show but this was a 15 man demolition job.

Team: Oisin Doyle, Jake O'Mahony, Tim Twohig, Ralph O'Mahony, Cian Burke, Richard Murphy, Tom Desmond, Fionn Harrington 0-1, Niall Desmond 0-1, Gavin Lowney 0-1, Charlie Long 1-8, Cathal Lynch 0-2, Rory Desmond 0 -2, Daithi Collis 5-2, Jake Lillis 0-1.
