Bandon GAA Notes 07-04-2018 - 2018-04-08

Premier Intermediate Football

On next Sunday our Premier Intermediate Footballers play Naomh Aban in the first of the county championship in Carrigadrohid at 02.15 pm. - POSTPONED DUE TO WEATHER

On Sunday last in underfoot conditions that really tested the top pitch this team lost narrowly to Dohenys, Bandon 01-06 to Dohenys 0-11.   Once Bandon got to grips with the lively Dohenys forwards they could probably have won this game and it took a save of real quality in the last five minutes to deny Bandon a second goal.

Team : Pat Prendergast , Dave Crowley , Brian Crowley, Joseph O’ Mahony , Donough Lucey , Jason Hickey , Cian O’ Mahony , Peter Murphy, James Walsh , Jonathon Mulcahy , Philip Crowley , Eoghan O’ Donovan , Mattie McNamara , Barry Collins , Mark Sugrue ,

Subs. : Rory Fogarty , Timmy McCarthy, Darren Crowley , Pa Barry.

U21 Football Championship

Aughaville on Saturday evening last was the venue for the U21 B Football semi-final Bandon  03-06 Urhan 0-13.

Both teams had great difficulty winning their quarter-finals and judging by this encounter Bandon improved more.

Not for the first time the outstanding opportunism of Adam Murphy was the highlight of this game , particularly the sheer quality of his second goal.

The half-time score had the two sides deadlocked at 1.03 to 0.06.

That first half was a ding-dong battle with the coolness of Eoin Nolan in taking his goal being the highlight and keeping Bandon in touch when in reality they should have scored much more.

The first ten minutes of the second half saw Bandon playing their best football of this championship to date when they reeled off 2.02 without reply.

Bandon should have scored more and mainly those let-offs gave oxygen to Urhan who came storming back into the game as they whittled down the lead .

Bandon seemed to tire and got very defensive.  Given weather conditions at the moment this was a good game of end to end football with every man working his socks off to the end . Plaudits to the venue and Caheragh Club.

Best on the day were goalkeeper Ciaran McCarthy , Kieran Walsh , Eoin Hurley , Robert O’ Driscoll ( getting better with every game after his long injury lay-off ) and the afore-mentioned Adam Murphy ( form is temporary , class is permanent ).  Team : Ciaran McCarthy , Jeremy Collins , Kieran Walsh , Eoin Hurley, Robert O’ Driscoll , Joseph O’ Mahony , Jordan Fenton Lehane , Eoin O' Sullivan , Aidan O’ Mahony , Timmy McCarthy ( 0.01 ) , Eoin Nolan ( 1.01 ) , Mark O’ Regan , Paul Lang ( 0.01 ) , Adam Murphy ( 2.02 ) , Ben Donegan ( 0.01 ) ,

Subs. : Nelson McCarthy , Harry Lillis, Conor Calnan , Brian O' Connell , James Daly , Olan McSweeney, Brendan Harrington , Fionn Twomey ,

Well done to team mentors Frank Lyons , Robert Moloney , Louise O’ Regan who are making great strides with these players .

 U12 - Croke Park

Best wishes to the under 12 players and mentors on next Friday when they get to play a tournament game at Croke Park.

Minor Hurling

On the same evening the Minor Hurlers have their first league game of the year at home to Aghabullogue with a 7pm throw-in.

U15 Football

Lastly, a much depleted Bandon Under 15 football team headed to Fermoy for the annual Pa O’Brien Memorial Tournament on last Saturday.

Bandon won the first game in high scoring game against Macroom 8-7 to 6-4.  We lost heavily to a very strong Austin Stacks from Kerry and alas a last minute penalty helped St Kierans of Limerick to a one point win against Bandon, score 3-2 to 3-3.

Bandon played Kilmurry in Tier 2 final - Kilmurry won well in final. Lads all enjoyed the day in a well run tournament.
