Southern Star 25th March - 22/03/2017

Next Saturday sees Bandon play their first championship match of 2017 when the Under 21 B Footballers take on Drimoleague (the Scorchers) in the Clona Milk sponsored West Cork semi-final at Enniskeane with a 4.30 p.m. throw-in.

We met the Scorchers at the same stage in 2016 but they will have the benefit of a match under their belts as we got a bye at the quarter-final stage this year. Having said that, this team has been prepared very well by Frank Lyons, Louise O’Regan, Ciaran O’Driscoll and Garrett Daly and all support will be very welcomed on the evening.

The Senior Hurlers are away to Bishopstown on Sunday evening 6pm in Round 3 of the RedFM sponsored League.

Meanwhile the Junior hurlers made a successful start to their Carbery League campaign with a deserved victory of 1-14 to 0-13 over a fancied St Oliver Plunketts selection last Wednesday evening.

Their next match is at some stage next week is against other fancied opponents Diarmuid O’Mathunas and check club website/twitter for date, time and venue.

Next Saturday sees the re-commencement of the Bandon Underage Clubs Nursery Programme under the guidance of Kieran Hurley between 10.30 and 12 noon.

This will cater for boys and girls aged under 5 to under 8’s in a safe child friendly environment whilst teas/coffees and light refreshments will be the available in the Club shop that will be open for the duration of the programme.

Great praise is due to the players of the under 9’s, 10 and 11’s Football teams who made successful starts to their league campaigns against teams from Sliabh Rua, Sam Maguires and Bishopstown last weekend.

Well done also to the underage referees from the club who officiated at all three games.

Last but by no means least, the Under 16 footballers recorded a 48 points victory over an O’Donovan’s Rossa team in their first round league game last Sunday.

This weekend see the Under 14 footballers at home to Ibane Gaels provisionally down for 5 pm on Saturday and the Minor Footballers are away to Canovee at Carraigadrohid on Sunday 26th March at 5pm.
