Fundraiser Night At the Dogs

The Bandon GAA Clubs big fundraiser in association the Bandon Ladies Football Club and Bandon Camogie Club is nearly upon us on next Saturday night at Curraheen Greyhound Stadium.  Our club really appreciates the great support this event has received with special thanks to those premises that have sold and still have tickets available at O’Reillys Maxol Garage, The Copper Grove, Chaplins Bar, O’Donovan’s Grocery Shop and Billly Cahalane’s Garage.   Remember please buy and collect  your tickets before the big night so as to ensure all proceeds go to our club.  

Minor Hurling West Cork League Final

Our Minor Hurlers rounded off a fantastic year when they completed the West Cork League and Cup double by defeating Newcestown 2-8 to 1-10 at a very damp Newcestown in the League final last Sunday afternoon.  Newcestown were more than a match for our lads in this final in comparison to the championship final at Clonakilty in August and indeed they seemed home and hosed when leading 1-10 to 1-6 mid-way through the second half.  Two points from Charlie Long on the 51^st and 55^th minutes cut the deficit to just two points but they still looked like they would hand on for a win.  On the 58^th minute a sweeping movement involving Cathal Lynch at full back, centre back Ben Donegan, centre forward Tim Twohig finished with our wing forward Conor Calnan rattling the net and edging us in front by the minimum margin and we held out to record this famous double over our great local rivals. 

In the first half, stand-in centre forward Tony Quinn was fantastic when scoring 1-2 from play early on but Newcestown went ahead 1-2 to 0-6 on 20 minutes and could have been further ahead except for some way-ward shooting.  Late points from corner-forwards Brian O’Mahony (from play) and Charlie Long (a free) ensured we led 1-4 to 0-6 at the break. 

In the second half, points from open play by Charlie Long and Conor Calnan had us 1-6 to 0-7 in front but then Newcestown took over to race into a 4 point lead entering the final quarter hour.

U15 Football

Our Under 15 football team have been busy in the past fortnight, defeating Bishopstown away in the league 0-3 to 3-10 a fortnight ago and Mallow at Carrigoon in the league and Championship quarter-finals on Monday the 29^thOctober Mallow 2-13 Bandon 5-22 before losing to Aghada in the league and championship semi-finals at Newcestown on Sunday last 1-8 to 6-6.  
in the quarter final at Carrigoon, Bandon U15's recorded a convincing win over Mallow despite entering the game without injury victims Rob McCarthy and Eamon Twomey.  Bandon started with real intent and using the full width of the pitch had the home team in trouble with their movement and support play from the first whistle. Early points from Keelan Crowley, Jack Cullen and Rory Desmond settled the team and Bandon never looked back after Crowley and Cullen goaled in quick succession, with the latter goal capping a fine individual performance by Jack Cullen. When the influential Brendan Twohig scored another goal just before half time it ended the game as a contest, with the score Mallow 0-4 Bandon 3-11 at the short whistle.
Bandon emptied the bench early in the second half and although Mallow rallied with a couple of  fine individual goals, the result was never in doubt with Ruairi Harrington and Jack Calnan dominant in the Bandon rear-guard. Further majors by Crowley and the influential Jake Lillis added further gloss to the scoreline to leave the final score Mallow 2-13 Bandon 5-22.
